Redoing Madelyns bedroom is her big gift but I bought a few small things for her to open. She loves dance of all kinds and reading so I was excited to purchase these books from #noelstreatfeild#theshoebooks p.s...how cute is that ballet Barbie! #ballet#barbie#readinglove#bookworm. It's not every day my daughter turns 8...got to make it special!
Loving this book!! It's my second Persephone read and I can definitely see why it's a classic. I love that feeling when you're reading and all of a sudden the author sneaks something in you weren't expecting! This book keeps doing that! Lena, the mother, continues to surprise me. I have to remind myself that this book was written in 1945, so the feelings and emotions of WWII are still fresh and authentic. 💚💚💚
It's a beautiful morning out and I have my book, coffee, some kitties, and all sorts of birds chirping around me...

I discovered whilst entering my birthdate for an online parking permit this morning that I was born on a #Thursday...and this Thursday I definitely feel like the road is long and winding! #thursdayschild

Can you find the book? It's camouflaged a bit against the tree.
I started my second Persephone book yesterday, Saplings, by Noel Streatfeild. This fallen pine tree is anything but a sapling, so I think it makes a good juxtaposition with the book! Saplings was written in 1945 and republished by Persephone Books as a Persephone Classic in 2009.
The book tells the story of a typical happy English family leading up to WWII and then the devastation of it all and how it affects them during the war. I'm not very far into it but what I've read is enticing so far! Lena, the Mom, is still very much attracted to and attentive to her husband, Alex. She feels their children are "charming decorations, not interfering with the original portrait of two people." The helicopter parents of today would have a heart attack if they read that! 😂😂
Have a great Thursday everyone! I'm still off school (for the rest of the week) and I moved my fallen tree to the curb yesterday, so today is a reading day! Yay!!!
New @persephonebooks 😊 I'm getting kind of addicted to these beauties! I think I'm going to put Cheerful Weather for the Wedding as my next #tbr, since it is so short..I'm finding very hard to read long books these days and I hope reading short books or collected stories will help me get over this slump!
Until two days ago they weren't dressing up for #worldbookday but suddenly #balletshoes written by #noelstreatfeild has inspired them. In love with the characters, today Maggie became Posy Fossil and Primrose Petrova Fossil. Had I had a little more time I would have sorted out mechanic overalls for Petrova but we did our best. And really they're just super stoked to have chalk in their hair again.

And with this I think I might have completed my collection of Susan Scarlett novels. Susan Scarlett was a pseudonym of Noel Streatfeild, which she used for a string of torrid romances about young ingenues and debonair older men that she wrote in the thirties and forties. My mumma has raved about this book for years - if you have watched 'you've got mail' then you will understand 😂 - giving it a read then popping it on Gia's bookcase for when she's a little older. #balletshoes#noelstreatfeild#youvegotmail 🤓📚
