Not quite Friday, but it felt like one today! For once I was the first one in at 7:50 (apparently I didn't get the WFH memo) so I got the best seat in the house. My view was interrupted at 10am by a fire drill (lasting an hour - God help us in an actual fire) but I couldn't complain for long as a lunchtime yoga session with some colleagues chilled me right out. Ahh now I really do wish it was Friday!
Real talk. I realized a while ago that times were changing, the sport was changing, and in order for my coaching career to grow I had to be open minded and willing to modify my views. It's worked so far but man these cell phones kill me. I let it roll during routine training despite my feelings on them because not only am I outnumbered but athletes these days feel the need to video each and every single rep of every day of every week of their cycles (I think that can be distracting too when excessive). There's huge value in sitting between sets and visualizing the next effort, imagining proper movements, as opposed to playing on social media or messaging people. There's a lot to be gained by concentrating during rest periods and not only when the bar is in your hands. Is that exhausting? Yes but that's sports. Though I let cell phones ride most times I won't during max effort days. When the routine calls for serious training, even if it were at technique day, I demand my athletes unplug for a change and give me, the barbell, and themselves full attention to our work. I practice this with my own fitness and I find I perform better. The world can wait an hour. Hey y'all, I'm still here! Been away for a few days just kinda taking care of myself and spending some time with my family in the Lone Star State. Your messages and comments have been overwhelmingly kind and I appreciate you all so much! If anyone out there is struggling too, don't be afraid to ask for help. You're not alone. It fucking sucks to feel like a prisoner in your own mind, especially when life is kicking your ass. See you soon, my little #basuritas, ya girl loves and misses you too! 📸: @bumble#mentalhealth#takeabreak#anxiety#depression#youarenotalone#selfcare#selflove
