Wow do I struggle to stay awake in the evenings now! When its dark and cold outside and you can hear the gentle taps of rain on the window, the blanket on the sofa is so inviting, the sweet smell of the cinnamon and spiced berry candle slowly burning and the Christmas lights gently twinkling. It's normally game over for both me and Shiloh come 8 o'clock! Puppy snuggles are the best though 🐕 and I really do love the cosy feel to this time if the year ❄
Before all of the excitement of the snow yesterday, we had a lovely couple of days with my Mum visiting. Went to pick her up from the station and she was all wrapped up like a little burrito because it’s “10 times colder in the countryside” apparently 😂 We were showing her around the shops when I spotted this rug and these hand-carved bowls. We’re going for a traditional/eclectic vibe for the cottage so have had my eye on rugs for a while now but everywhere was so expensive! Managed to negotiate this one down to a ridiculously cheap price and got the bowls for a good price too so I am a very happy bunny. Now we’ve just got to get the kitchen looking like a fabulous rustic dream so that we can find a home for these - it currently looks more like a cheap student kitchen 😂 Also, we’ve had a nightmare getting people to come back to us with quotes for work in the lead up to Christmas. I’ve pretty much given up on the idea of getting anything done before the New Year as it seems no one wants to work in the cold 🙄 Even had a guy come and look at building us a table and said that it probably wouldn’t be done before summer 😶 I’m not adjusting well to this “slower pace of life” thing. At all. #renovationproblems#cottagelife#cottagestyle#cottagedecor#handcarved#eclecticinteriors#16thcenturycottage#rusticcharm#interiors#styleitdark#howivintage#bohoismyjam#darkinteriors#cotswolds#countrylife
There was a time when I thought our home wasn’t big enough or filled with the latest and greatest in home decor to host parties or get togethers. You would think Instagram would add to those insecurities but it’s done the opposite. Instead of seeing our homes quirks I see charm, and no open floor plan here but that just makes parties and get togethers more cozy. And even though most of our decor has been gifted, thrifted or found ( and when I say found, it was rescued from going to the dump) they are pieces that I love. Somehow the mismatched and worn have a relaxed vibe that make family and friends feel welcome. So now when we host a get together like today it’s not because no one else could host but because I want to welcome them into our cozy place. My heart is full for the dear friends who came by today for food, fellowship and we even sang a few carols. It really is such a special time of year! •

I happily went out into this weather four times today! On my last wander through the village as the light was fading- the snow was still gently falling, the Christmas crucifix on the church tower was aglow, and several chimneys sent steady smoke trails into the quiet of the late afternoon. I’d apologise for the snow spam, but I’m honestly not one bit sorry. If you saw this fairytale in real life, you’d understand why (not for the first time this year) I pinched myself as I walked home. I live here. And as night fell, an owl hooted outside our window. How lucky am I, to call this my life? ✨
All is calm, all is bright. First snow of the season at our cottage. Our little house sign is almost covered in snow now. Have a good night!

Our favorite little family tradition is pulling out big blankets and pillows to make a cozy pallet for our Family Movie Nights on Fridays and then most Saturdays. Either hubs or I will cook something easy or just order pizza, we do a quick family clean up of the house so we can be done with our chores, and then it’s softies, snuggles, dinner and dessert! ❤️ The girls talk about family movie night all week long, planning out what we’ll watch, fun ideas for sweet treats, and they are little enough that this, THIS, is the highlight of their week. It’s small, but it centers our family and gives us something restful to look forward to after the cray of the week. Relaxed. Cozy. Snuggled. Together. I love these nights. 😊 You buddies enjoy your people and have a wonderful rest of the weekend! 😘
