I never apologize for where I come from or how I was brought up. I was disciplined hard, but was hugged even harder afterwards. Growing up, we never thought we were rich. We never struggled, but we were taught the value of hard work. Wealth, to my parents, has always been about relationships – how hard you laughed, how wide you smiled and how fiercely you loved.

Looking back on the years that I’ve lived under my folks’ roof, I can’t help but be so immensely grateful. I was never an easy kid – truth be told, I’m not an easy adult either, being an A-type personality. The countless sacrifices these two have made for me are priceless and limitless. And I don’t think any show of appreciation would ever be enough.

If someone had to ask me – ‘what’s the one thing you’re most grateful for right now?’ – I’d probably say the acceptance that I’ve received from my mom and dad, and the fierce support that they now so readily give – for who I am, for the career I’ve chosen, for the person I’ve chosen to spend my life with, for the big life decisions that I know lie ahead. They’re willing to fight for me when they don’t have to. They’re backing me right until the very end. And because of this, I’m hellbent on paying it forward. Here’s to you, Mom and Dad. Thank you!
