#TBT to my Dad's old Camaro race car. Back then you could basically run the same car in both IMSA and Trans-Am. First pic is from the 1985 12 Hours of Sebring and the second is from the Tans-Am race at Cleveland after they painted it black. The rules gave an option to run a low compression small block 350 (instead of a high compression 310 that the pro teams ran) so it was relatively affordable for privateers. They weren't always super competitive but he said just being a part of big races like that was special. Trans-Am was even a support race for F1 at Detroit in the 80's (I've got some great pictures at home of Senna's lotus on the grid). Sadly competing in big pro races as a privateer on a budget isnt really possible anymore. Would love to have heard this thing go ripping past!
