BACK ON AIR WITH CP24 BREAKFAST TOMORROW!!! (I’ll be waiting patiently on this street corner until then). In all seriousness, FINALLY recovered from a severe bout of laryngitis. Had a large swelling - benign, thankfully - on my right vocal chord that basically made me sound like the exorcist. One day turned into a week turned into a month. While the initial treatments and mandated voice rest were unsuccessful, the latest round did the trick. Have learned a lot in the past weeks (probably more than I ever wanted to know) about vocal chords, breathing and listening to your body when it’s beat. Really tough and humbling being grounded when your voice is your currency.
BUT it was also nice to step back from everything for a minute and take a spectator’s view of my life. It’s insanely paced, and this time has allowed me to assess the areas I’m giving too much, and where I’ve been neglecting. In other words, I was able to rebalance, prioritize and hit the ‘reset’ button.
Had to use the notepad on my iPhone the first couple of weeks to communicate, which was really frustrating - but have now finally learned to listen more than speak. Sidenote: you don’t realize how many small, mini-conversations you have every day until you have to explain why you can’t have them (your concierge, your neighbours, your Uber driver, familiar faces in the elevator, all the colleagues you see in your workplace etc...) 🤐
Anyways, thanks to all the friends, family (my amazing parents, especially) and loyal viewers that took the time to send me a message of concern, home remedy, anecdote, or just to say they missed me. ❤️ Also, a huge thanks to the wonderful ENTs that treated me (Dr. Hacker, Dr. Hands), Dr. Freeman at Mt Sinai for telling me I don’t need vocal chord surgery (would have meant another 2-3 months on the shelf, so👏) and the amazing speech pathologists (Pauly Brar) that worked with me and continue to work with me to hopefully mitigate the chances of this happening again.
Vocal warmups, breathing exercises and minimizing how much I have to speak are now part of my NEW routine.
Can’t wait to get back to waking up the best city in the world every morning! 📺
Shooting for Ward 1 Studios a few weeks back, I helped document the Change Foundation’s Young Carers’ Forum, and I met some remarkable people, like Stephane here (also a photographer! Woo!). I’ll leave it to him to describe the event, but first, my love and respect to all the young (and old) caregivers out there.
Stephane: “A few weeks ago The Change Foundation put together a forum for us YCs (young caregivers) and the goal was to: - highlight and discuss the challenges we face taking care of our family members. - the affect that its had on our lives today and will have on our future. - and to network and brainstorm with Ontario programs and foundations so that we can start building awareness to this segment of our population that goes unnoticed.
But it wasn’t all business. We got the chance to meet some really great people. We shared our stories. We confided in each other. And we got validation for the feelings we have taking on the role of a "young caregiver" and honestly...it felt really good. So i feel like i can say on behalf of all those young people in the picture that we're grateful for all the warm hearts that listened us, gave us a chance to meet and make friends with other people that share the same perspective, and are now working with us to raise our voices.
Yall are gems.
Oh and @artnotshame, thanks for the pictures.” - YOU’RE WELCOME! Stay cool Stephane (says the nerd)!
We are proud to share that @yorkdalestyle has won the Canadian Solar Industries Association 2017 Project of the Year Award, for the installation of a green roofing system on the shopping centre's rooftop. By adding solar as a finishing touch, this roof now supports different technologies which support environmental initiatives with improved consumption and generation practices for the building and its thousands of daily patrons.

After seeing 2 of her friends die from cancer, she determined that it wasn’t the cancer that killed them, but the treatments themselves.
She eventually chose not to continue to undergo chemotherapy. Her doctors advised it, but Candice had done her own research and chose not to further harm her body.
Instead, she chose to eat 3 pineapples a day every day. She ate other fruits like grapefruit, lemons, papaya, apples, bananas, and kiwi.
addition to the fruit, she completely cut out animal protein from her diet. 6 months later, the stage 4 cancer was completely gone. Her doctors, although shocked with her results, declared her cancer free.
According to Candice, “I got rid of the cancer by starving it. I learned that the bromelain from the pineapple, kiwi and papaya destroys the protein layer of the cancer.
The animal proteins feed the cancer and when I eat heavy meals, my energy is directed towards food ingestion, so the body cannot heal itself. I ate a lot of fruits, which enabled me to save myself from the cancer.
I’m thankful to be alive. I had five years or six months to get rid of this disease. I decided to show them that I can do that myself. I started eating a lot of fruits, sometimes I consumed nothing but fruit for seven days”. The science behind her results is, in fact, due to the ability for bromelain to “eat” cancer cells. Candice also eliminated chemicals from her life by getting rid of her cosmetics, household cleaning products, she quit smoking, and she made major attempts to reduce stress in her life. “Stress, chemicals and products of animal origin feed cancer. That’s why I got rid of them,”she says.
Along with all of the changes she made, she points out that diet is the most important factor in killing cancer.
She explains, “Nutrition plays an important role, along with regular exercise, positive attitude, even spirituality. Fruits, such as pineapple, contain bromelain which is known for its positive effect against cancer.”
